This course is aimed at Therapists who hold a Swedish Body Massage Diploma or equivalent and a Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology, who are looking to extend their holistic therapies career and to gain knowledge and skills required to help drain clients post-surgery and learn about different types of surgeries and complications that may arise.
Classic MLD
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a type of gentle massage which is intended by proponents to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph from the tissues space body. The lymph system depends on intrinsic contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph vessels (peristalsis) and the movement of skeletal muscles to propel lymph through the vessels to lymph nodes and then beyond the lymph nodes to the lymph ducts which return lymph to the cardiovascular system. Manual lymph drainage uses a specific amount of pressure (less than 9 ounces per square inch) and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow.
Post Op MLD
Following many elective, cosmetic-surgery operations, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is advised and is critical in the healing and recovery process. It is an extremely gentle treatment and significantly decreases the presence of bruising, swelling, stiffness, burning or shooting pain, scars, and lumps occurred during or after surgery.
Many surgeons advise their clients in advance to book Post Op MLDs to help their client’s recovery.
Surgeries that can benefit from MLD include:
- Liposuction
- Tummy tuck
- Fat removal (360 sculpt)
